About Me

Business Man

Hello, my name is Sean Aleman.  I am currently a Senior at Midwestern State University. I will be graduating in Spring 2021 with a Dual Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science, with a minor in Philosophy. Prior to enrolling in my undergraduate studies, I worked as a Biomedical Equipment Technician and Supervisor for the United States Air Force for 8 years.

My diverse experiences and skills have crafted me into having a unique perspective which allows me to creatively overcome any difficulty or situation that arises. My passion is for utililzing technology to tackle life’s complex problems. I am specifically interested in pursuing a Biomedical Engineering PhD.

Desalination Project

Desalination Project

Utilized MATLAB to reproduce graphs from a published paper, as well as 3D modeled a capacitive deionization apparatus. From UGROW Summer 2020 @ Midwestern State University

Article-Rater Version 2

Article-Rater Version 2

Using computer science methods combined with phenomenological methods in order to better automate the determination of bias in news media. Programmed using C++ 2019

Enhancing Motion From Video

Enhancing Motion From Video

Utilized MIT open source code ( https://people.csail.mit.edu/mrub/vidmag/ ) that uses FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) in order to enhance the motion and colors of a video. Created a website that allows a user to upload a video to be enhanced. Used php, javascript, html, css. Video processing run in MATLAB software.

Optimization of Filtration of Aquaponics System

Optimization of Filtration of Aquaponics System

Designed and assembled a soil-less plant growing Aquaponics System using the Raft Method. Automated Aquaponics System with a goal of optimizing the filtration process. 2017 Research @ Midwestern State University

Investigation of Granular Flow in a Vibrated and Rotated Cylinder

Investigation of Granular Flow in a Vibrated and Rotated Cylinder

Worked with Dr. Melhus and fellow researcher to build a granular experiment that produces drum flow and vibration in a rotating long cylinder. Applied knowledge gained from Electric Circuits course to design a circuit for the system. Programmed Arduino microprocessor to gather data on “angle of repose” and further study its application to landslides, mudslides, and piling of granular materials.

High Performance Computing Project. Compared different parallel processing methods using C software language in order to speed up processing speed. 2018

Optimization of Aquaponics System

Optimization of Aquaponics System

Designed and assembled a soil-less plant growing Aquaponics System using the Raft Method. Used Arduino microprocessor with sensors to analyze data in order to optimize oxygenation and nitrate levels. Automated Aquaponics System with a long-term goal of becoming a completely closed loop system. 2016 Research @ Midwestern State University

Biopython GeneBank Information Gathering Project

Biopython GeneBank Information Gathering Project

Utilized regular expressions and the software language biopython in order to create a software program which extracts information from a GenBank file, which is a genetic sequence database.
